Make plan-

Most people don’t keep in mind that it is exceptionally crucial to plan earlier before going to photograph a fireworks display. One should reach the place of activity before start of the firework event. One should be clear regarding set up of the fireworks display and also know where firework will be highlighted.

If possible try to ask the organizer about their plans for the event. View the location properly and take notes about the lightings and surroundings. After viewing you can decide what lenses and focal lengths to be used. Preparing in advance and anticipating are the most essential tasks in firework photography.

To frame and focus-

Aiming your camera on the right spot is the most difficult part in fireworks display photography. Your camera should be aimed before the fireworks display begins. You should focus your camera manually or set it to infinity. If you use auto focus mode in low light, you may miss lot of shots. Keep your focus in advance mode and fix your focal length by adjusting them accordingly.

Shutter Speed -

Shutter speed is an ordinary keyword which is used to explain about exposure time and effective length of time a camera’s shutter is open. The total exposure is proportional to this exposure time, or duration of light reaching the film or image sensor. It’s not essential to set your shutter speed to a very low setting. The provocation to keep your shutter open for so long is because of night time and it’s advisable to do so. The difficulty is that fireworks display is extremely bright and you might over expose them by ending up not having a clean and nice shot. What you may get is too much of the smoke in you photograph.

Aperture-

Aperture is size of the opening in lens when the picture is taken. Lot of people think they have to open up full lens so that they could capture them all. Remember that fireworks display emit very bright light so you should set your aperture between mid to small for good quality photograph.

ISO-

ISO is a setting in camera, if we change ISO, it changes image sensor’s sensitivity to light. You should always set your camera at lowest ISO possible.

Capture the mood and surrounding-

When you photograph fireworks display, you should not just capture the photograph of the fireworks but you should also remember to involve background and foreground of the display. Fireworks display is always associated with some kind of celebration or events; in your photograph you should capture those associated things, such as people, places and landmarks which make your photograph more meaningful.

Number of shots -

You should take as many shots as possible so that you should not miss a single action. Fireworks displays are rapid. From being lighted to every point in its trajectory to busting into vibrant colors, every point is important.
