The 828 metres (2,716.5 ft) high Burj Khalifa is the centre of attention for a global audience as it celebrate New Year’s Eve with a spectacular environment-friendly and satellite-guided laser-lights-fireworks show, telecast live to over 2 billion people around the world.

Close to half a million Dubai residents and visitors witness the New Year’s Eve Gala from Burj Park, an island set on The Burj Lake opposite Burj Khalifa, and from several other places across Downtown Dubai.

Fireworks Display

Make plan-

Most people don’t keep in mind that it is exceptionally crucial to plan earlier before going to photograph a fireworks display. One should reach the place of activity before start of the firework event. One should be clear regarding set up of the fireworks display and also know where firework will be highlighted.

If possible try to ask the organizer about their plans for the event. View the location properly and take notes about the lightings and surroundings. After viewing you can decide what lenses and focal lengths to be used. Preparing in advance and anticipating are the most essential tasks in firework photography.

To frame and focus-

Aiming your camera on the right spot is the most difficult part in fireworks display photography. Your camera should be aimed before the fireworks display begins. You should focus your camera manually or set it to infinity. If you use auto focus mode in low light, you may miss lot of shots. Keep your focus in advance mode and fix your focal length by adjusting them accordingly.

Shutter Speed -

Shutter speed is an ordinary keyword which is used to explain about exposure time and effective length of time a camera’s shutter is open. The total exposure is proportional to this exposure time, or duration of light reaching the film or image sensor. It’s not essential to set your shutter speed to a very low setting. The provocation to keep your shutter open for so long is because of night time and it’s advisable to do so. The difficulty is that fireworks display is extremely bright and you might over expose them by ending up not having a clean and nice shot. What you may get is too much of the smoke in you photograph.

Aperture-

Aperture is size of the opening in lens when the picture is taken. Lot of people think they have to open up full lens so that they could capture them all. Remember that fireworks display emit very bright light so you should set your aperture between mid to small for good quality photograph.

ISO-

ISO is a setting in camera, if we change ISO, it changes image sensor’s sensitivity to light. You should always set your camera at lowest ISO possible.

Capture the mood and surrounding-

When you photograph fireworks display, you should not just capture the photograph of the fireworks but you should also remember to involve background and foreground of the display. Fireworks display is always associated with some kind of celebration or events; in your photograph you should capture those associated things, such as people, places and landmarks which make your photograph more meaningful.

Number of shots -

You should take as many shots as possible so that you should not miss a single action. Fireworks displays are rapid. From being lighted to every point in its trajectory to busting into vibrant colors, every point is important.

The Origin of Fireworks

We have seen many fireworks shows around but now let us know about history of fireworks. Motherland of fireworks is mainly acknowledged as China, with the first explosive mixture found being black powder, during the Sung dynasty (960-1279). It is said that a cook in ancient china found that a mixture of sulfur, saltpeter, and charcoal was very flammable and would explode if enclosed in a small space. The earliest application of this technology was for just amusement and pleasure. Chinese are still on the top for the production of fireworks. Once the recipe for black powder was perfected, they found that they can easily use it as rocket fuel, and they used to cut and make wooden rockets in the shape of dragon in 6thcentury. These rocket powered arrows shot from their mouth, and which were used to hit against the Mongol intruder of 1279. The tactics behind these rockets is still used in rocket powered fireworks in present times.

Fireworks Shows

Fireworks shows are amazing opportunity to acknowledge pyrotechnics in all their glory. Fireworks come in numerous collection of shapes, colors, and designs, which can be used by everyone whether normal man or professional fireworks employers to make beautiful displays. There are various public and private fireworks shows for holidays and events. There are different types of fireworks that are used, as well as how you can put on your own fireworks display at home.

Commercial fireworks shows are only used by professionals, and in most cases they are not legal for an individual to make a purchase. There are assorted various grades of fireworks shows for majority countries. There are regulations to keep everyone from owning and firing pyrotechnics that are powerful enough. There are ample of fireworks that are legal approximately all around. These can be used to create fireworks shows in your own back yard. For instance, there are different types of candles, small rockets and other kinds of fireworks ready in markets and can be used by anyone who purchases which can be integrated to create an ultimate firework show.

Commercial grade fireworks are also manufactured by companies to actualize a large scale fireworks shows, usually during public celebrations and holidays. These fall into a number of different styles. For instance, many shells will give a spherical disperse of stars (the points of light you see) either with or without tails trailing after them. They can go straight out or droop and fall creating an effect very much alike to a weeping willow. Some do not ignite until they are about to fall, creating an effect similar to a waterfall. There are also fireworks that are designed to split into smaller stars after detonating, creating a crossing pattern, or to spit out sparks as they rise and split. The number of different types of fireworks shows is staggering, as they are used all over the world for many types of celebrations.

Billy Gilbert Dowell, 48, of 15,349 Meneses Road, legally acquired the chemicals needed to make a rocket, a type of rocket, the Internet, “said the sheriff.

“He will not face any charges because what he bought is not illegal, and he agreed to give up the rest of the chemicals,” Blakely said.

East Limestone Fire Department had been called about 9:25 p.m. to a report of fireworks exploding in a man’s had. Gilbert was mixing chemicals for what he called “flash crackers,” when the explosion occurred, the sheriff said.

He was taken to Huntsville Hospital, where doctors amputated his hand, Blakely said. He was listed in good condition Wednesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Sheriff officials called the State Fire Marshal Office, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the bomb squad of the state. “They shot the rest of what he had on Tuesday,” the sheriff said.

There were appointments outside circuit’s dinger back to back, ripping a double game, hand warmers and long sleeved shirts as a dozen teams of Major League Baseball adapted for opening day.

Ramón Hernández always fireworks on Thursday morning, hitting a two-run homer at three points in the bottom of the ninth for the Reds came back to the Milwaukee Brewers 7-6.

The World Series champion San Francisco Giants won their defense of an inauspicious start, losing 2-1 to their rivals in the National League Dodgers of Los Angeles during the match of the night.

There were six openers, comprising games in Washington, New York, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati and Kansas City. The rest of the teams were scheduled to open on Friday, including the Cleveland Indians who had to clear 15 centimeters (six inches) of snow off their field which fell Wednesday night.

One of the constant themes in American ballparks this year is collection boxes set up at stadiums for donations to the relief efforts in Japan after the deadly earthquake and tsunami.

At St. Louis, six Cardinals Hall of Famers were introduced during the annual parade lap around the warning track at Busch Stadium, including 90-year-old Stan Musial.

In New York, strong winds buffeted Yankee Stadium, forcing some fans to move up onto the concourses or under overhangs for cover.

Some of the best opening-day drama took place in Cincinnati where the Reds looked down and out against the Brewers before rallying for a big finish.

“I’ve played 12 years, and this is the most amazing opening day,” said Hernandez. “To get that type of win is great, and to do it on a day like today gets people even more excited. It’s amazing.”

Milwaukee became the first team in 42 years to open the season with back-to-back homers when Rickie Weeks and Carlos Gomez connected off Edinson Volquez. Ryan Braun also had a solo shot, helping Milwaukee take a 6-3 lead to the ninth.

The Reds began the new season with only the second game-ending homer in Cincinnati opening-day history. In 2005, Joe Randa beat the New York Mets in similar fashion.

“I’ve never seen an opening day like that,” said Dusty Baker, who won his first opener in four years as the Reds manager. “I’ve seen a guy hit a homer to start the game, but I’ve never seen the first two guys hit homers.

“That was about as dramatic a finish as you can have, especially ending the season the way we did last year and then starting it the same way this year.”

In New York, Curtis Granderson hit a go-ahead homer leading off the seventh inning and Mark Teixeira belted a three-run shot off Justin Verlander, lifting New York over the Detroit Tigers 6-3.

“It was great — except for the weather,” said Granderson.

C.C. Sabathia pitched six strong innings, Derek Jeter added a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning and closing pitcher Mariano Rivera posted his first save and 560th of his career.

“Their bullpen and the long ball is what did us in today,” Detroit manager Jim Leyland said. “I thought it was actually a decent game for the conditions. It was pretty rough.”

In St. Louis, Cameron Maybin tied it with a two-out homer in the ninth inning and grounded a single that led to the go-ahead run in the 11th as the San Diego Padres opened with a 5-3 win over the Cardinals.

Cardinals star Albert Pujols to ground into a career worst three games going into double zero-five. The most valuable player three times NL cut contract negotiations at the beginning of training camp and could be a free agent this fall.

After lengthy discussions during the seminar on February 1, Treasure City Commission decided to make a proposal for the city also participates in $ 5,000 …

After lengthy discussions during the seminar on February 1, Treasure City Commission decided to make a proposal for the city also participates in $ 5,000 for the fourth of July fireworks on the beach.

Based on last year’s $ 10,000 pays $ 5,000 in the city’s budget this year, fireworks, assuming the Treasure Island Chamber of Commerce would support the other $ 5,000 a year ago.

However, chamber officials have notified city leaders that they cannot make the contribution this year.

“Can we offset some of the cost with parking fees?” asked Commissioner Carol Coward.

Recreation Director Cathy Hayduke said it is possible, if the weather is good and there is a good turnout. Two years ago, the city made about $8,600 in parking fees. Last year the figure was lower because of inclement weather, Hayduke said.

“Obviously, fireworks are fun for everyone on the beach,” said Clyde Smith, general manager of the Bilmar Beach Resort. “It is critical for a beach resort.”

Commissioner Phil Collins suggested taking the issue back to the chamber’s board of directors for reassessment.

“I’d like to have them re-evaluate this,” Collins said. “It’s very advantageous to bringing business here. It’s money well spent.”

Smith, who serves on the board, said he would look into it.

Commissioner Alan Bildz said private fireworks by citizens are often as good as the more expensive variety.

“If (the budgeted) $5,000 isn’t enough for a good show,” he said, “we don’t need it.”

Collins reminded Bildz that private fireworks are illegal and backed up what he said earlier.

“I think fireworks are synonymous with the Fourth of July and we need it,” Collins said. “Hopefully, the parking will pay for it.”

City Manager Reid Silverboard noted that a $5,000 show “isn’t a serious show” but $10,000 “is a huge show.”

“We’ve discovered during Standing Ovations that fireworks is a draw and it enhances our events,” said Hayduke. “It brings people to our island.”

In other action, commissioners:

Moved forward on a resolution that would allow Silverboard to enter into a license agreement with Jerry Allen of West Coast Kayaks to offer a stand-up paddleboard rental business on the public beach at TI Gulf Front Park, 10600 Gulf Blvd.

Moved forward on a request to change the sale hours for alcoholic beverages in off-premise businesses, such as convenience stores and package stores. The city recently changed the hours for on-premise consumption, such as restaurants and bars, to 8 a.m. to 2 a.m., Monday through Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Sundays. Gregg Rigel, the longtime operator of the Rally Store on Gulf Boulevard made the request.

Moved forward on a resolution to purchase 26 dumpsters from Wastequip Industrial for $18,264.

Moved forward on a resolution to spend an additional $ 4808 to install the coverage in the areas of play at Treasure Bay, Isle of Palms Parks and Rosselli. Mulch is considered Americans with Disabilities Act provides access and national park to protect the safety fall height, which is necessary for security. The city currently has $ 7,090 budgeted for this purpose, but a total of $ 11,898 is needed.

San Joaquin County saw a massive generation of profits through the sale of fireworks for the Fourth of July celebrations. Tracy being the last incorporated …

San Joaquin County saw a massive generation of profits through the sale of fireworks for the Fourth of July celebrations. Tracy being the last incorporated city to lift its ban on safe and sane fireworks this year is sure glad to have taken that step. Till 2011 there was a ban on any type and kind in Tracy.

Fireworks sale gives a profit

The Fire Department reported that nonprofit groups generated $538,000 in gross sales. Of that amount, the nine participating groups received about 50 percent, not accounting for any costs they incurred in renting spaces for their sales stands.

The non-profit groups gave a positive response and some brought in more money than they ever had in a single fundraiser. In all, the coalition filled its coffers with more than $22,000, after selling $50,000 worth of fireworks. Of that $4,000 was paid as rent to Walmart. Still, it was the most the group had ever been able to raise from a single activity.

Profits from Fireworks sale to be used for charitable activities

The Funds garnered from the sale will be used for a number of charitable activities. The funds will be used to provide housing for Tracy residents who are homeless, while another will use the proceeds to purchase uniforms and equipment for the Tracy Learning Center high school athletic programs. Tracy Learning Center was one of the participating organizations and is a cluster of charter schools. The school is estimated to have earned approximately $25,000. The sale booth was run by the school athletes and parent volunteers.

Increase in the use of illegal fireworks

While the focus was always on public safety, the city saw an increase in the use of illegal fireworks. The illegal fireworks are those brands that are considered dangerous for the environment and the public. While these fireworks are considered not safe and sane, the number of people using them saw a rise.

Well there was a huge crowd gathered at Fort Griswold State Park to watch the Sailfest fireworks over the Thames River between Groton and New …

Well there was a huge crowd gathered at Fort Griswold State Park to watch the Sailfest fireworks over the Thames River between Groton and New London on Saturday. The event was actually a weekend-long, but what they really come for is the fireworks.

Well we encountered few people to get elaborated details, so say Brittany Kaplan and Chris Renaldi & Allie and Amanda Smith who made it to the riverfront walk-around 10:30 a.m. Saturday to make sure they had prime seats for what Kaplan called “the best fireworks ever.”

They came from Ledyard and Norwich, ready for day two of Sailfest fun.

By mid-afternoon, all the front-row seats along the river were spoken for. People brought camping chairs, blankets and umbrellas to combat a hot sun. Large coolers were banned from the downtown this year.

While they had a long time to wait, they couldn’t have asked for better weather – or more things to do.

Vendors filled the Parade, Bank Street, State Street and the waterfront walkway. Bands began playing on various stages around town at noon.

Face painting, “a la feline,” was available on Bank Street, and the Rotaract was selling “I (symbol of a whale tail) NL” shirts, which seemed to be a big hit.

“One of the benefits of working the event is you have a front row seat for the fireworks,” said volunteer Mel Foti, who manned the information booth on the Custom House Pier. “It’s 150,000 of your closest friends. Tonight should be spectacular.”

Two tall ships stood watch in the harbor, and other boats were already staking spots for the fireworks along the river as well.

The Gazela, a barkentine built in 1901, had attracted more than 1,800 people by 4 p.m., said crewmember Nat Bender. The Philadelphia-based ship has three masts and 15 sails, Bender said.

Chief mate Matt Caplins said the massive ship can sail at more than 7 knots.

Anne Ward, of West Haven, said she’s fascinated with tall ships as she toured and photographed the Gazela Saturday afternoon.

“There are lots of interesting lines on this ship,” Ward said. “She’s been restored beautifully.”

Sailfest was along Bank and State streets and the municipal parking lot on Eugene O’Neill Drive – location of the midway this year.

Further Sailfest events included live music that started at noon at the Parade Plaza Stage, the Custom House Stage and the Hygienic Art Park Stage; the Hygienic Fine Crafts Festival on Bank Street; and the 5K Sailfest Road Race that morning. There was a dance party, salsa and tango lessons and an outdoor group dance led by the artist Cupid. In combination with the fest, the Custom House Maritime Museum, the New London County Historical Society, the public library and several galleries arranged displays on lighthouse history, paintings and prints.
